ICYMI: AMERICAN RESCUE PLAN ALREADY SAVING JOBS AS AMERICAN AIRLINES CANCELS 13,000 FURLOUGHS

American Airlines to Workers: “Tear Up” Those Furloughs!

Just hours after passing through Congress, the public investment in the American Rescue Plan is already saving thousands of jobs. Today, American Airlines sent a letter telling 13,000 of its employees who had received notice of furloughs starting on April 1 to “tear them up,” citing the American Rescue Plan’s passage as the reason for the change.

American Airlines executives write in the letter

“Congress has passed the American Rescue Plan, which includes additional funding for the Payroll Support Program (PSP). The bill is now on its way to President Biden for his signature so that it can be signed into law. Once that happens, it will extend the commitment that all U.S.-based AMerican Airlines team members will continue to receive pay and benefits through Sept. 30, 2021.

“For our 13,000 colleagues who received Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification notices last month, those are happily canceled — you can tear them up!”
