At Least 400,000 Small Businesses Have Permanently Closed; Small Business Revenue is Down 33.1% Nationally
WASHINGTON, DC — As small businesses across the country fight to keep their doors open and employees on the job, small business owners shared their struggles to keep their heads above water during the pandemic and describe the need for the American Rescue Plan in a new video organized by Invest in America and Small Business for America’s future.
Small businesses employ nearly half of all Americans and account for two out of every three new jobs. In addition to the Biden administration’s expansion of the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP), which would ensure that the nation’s smallest businesses have access to aid over massive corporations like Newsmax and Hallmark, small businesses need the $15 billion in grants and $35 billion for small business financing programs in the American Rescue Plan.
“If our federal government does not provide aid to small businesses and storefronts on the main streets across America, we will see more and more of these beautiful businesses disappear.”

“We are the spine of the economy. No small business, no big business.”
— Subrina Collier, owner of Uptown Yolk
and Leah and Louise
“What another round of aid means to us, a stimulus package, is everything. We can stay open, I can keep my employees employed.”
— Candace Combs, owner of
